She called a friend after wards and asked her to meet by the complexes pool. Her friend arrived shortly thereafter, but only found Porco's red sweater by the pool area. She has never been heard from again.
Her savings account has not been utilized since her 1986 disappearance. She did not have any extra cash or belongings with her at the time she vanished. Foul play is suspected in her case.
Christopher J. Below is a possible suspect in Porco's case and in several other murders and disappearances of young women, including Heather Teague and Shaylene Farrell. A photograph of him is posted below this case summary. He pleaded guilty to attempted involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting of Kathern Fetzer, whose body was never found, and is currently serving time in an Ohio prison. One of Porco's missing person fliers was found inside his home in Lodi, Ohio in 1992. Investigators know Below, a native of Kentucky, was living in South Carolina during the late 1980s and early 1990s. They are trying to determine his whereabouts at the time of Porco's disappearance. It should be emphasized that he has not been charged in connection with any case besides Fetzer's and only conjecture links him to Porco's case.
Porco's mother believes that her daughter's remains are buried in the North Forest Beach area, but no evidence has been discovered to prove any theory. Porco's case remains unsolved
Kristina / Christina
Kristina Porco bore a striking resemblance to my own daughter - Christina [Gordon] Anderson: See photo:
Of course, in 1986 my daughter was 21 years old, married and living in the state of Kansas.
However, she just happened to be home on November 29th, 1986. The reason? Because we'd buried my brother Mike Martin the day before. Mike had died at the age of 34 with a massive heart attack, and when I phoned Christina with the news she and her husband immediately flew home.
Mike's funeral was held at 2:00 PM on November 28th, 1986 in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
That same night, [someone] murdered a woman who hailed from Indiana, and dumped her body just one mile from my brother's grave. Later, I learned that the woman [Janet Sue Miller] had rented a room at the UpTowner Inn on the 28th, even though she had a house. They said she was supposed to meet [someone] in the hotel that day, but no one ever learned who she was meeting. All I knew was, the UpTowner Inn was located right beside the funeral home where Mike's funeral was held. Anyone standing in one of the rooms located along the side or the back of the huge inn could easily have watched the funeral proceedings.
Twenty years later, I can look back and plainly see that our troubles began the day we buried my brother. Someone was waiting for Mike Martin to get out of his way so he could reach out and take the women that had been in Mike's life. He never considered for one instant that Mike had a sister who was just as stubborn, just as determined, and just as devoted to her family, and that he would have the fight of his life to ever get around this woman. He really should have thought of that possibility.
A man by the name of John Thomas was originally arrested, tried and convicted of the murder of Janet Miller. The first time I saw the man on tv, I said --- "He didn't kill Janet Miller. I don't know who did, but he didn't do it."
And I told the truth. In 1986 I didn't know the man who I'll simply refer to as "The Bearded Man," - at least for now. I would meet him in 1990, and it would ultimately take me a year or so to begin to realize the man was not normal, and had some mighty strange secrets - in fact, deadly secrets.
John Thomas served 5 and 1/2 years in prison for Janet Miller's murder, and then he was re-tried. And when the court refused to allow the "evidence" that had been planted on the man the first time around, the jury found him not guilty. He tried to sue the people who had framed him, but the West Virginia Supreme Court upheld them in what they had done to him and he finally gave up. If it had been me, I'd still be fighting - still be trying to find out who did kill Janet Miller - but, I guess everyone isn't like me.
Before my daughter married and moved to Kansas [her husband was in the military], she had worked at Elby's restaurant in Belpre, Ohio - and she had modeled for the Lingerie Lady at Holiday Inn's in several states.
During this time period Christina had a stalker. He followed her on several occasions - so often in fact, that I started driving into Belpre and escorting her home.
In 1990, Terri Lee Roach worked at Elby's and she too bore a striking resemblance to Christina - enough so that a photo of her fooled my husband. He thought it was a picture of Christina.
Terri was murdered in July of 1990. Her case remains unsolved here in Coincidence Valley.
The Bearded Man
The Bearded Man married for the second time in October of 1986. One week later he was seen walking in a nearby park with another woman - and so it would be regardless of who he was engaged to or married to. There was always another woman - another town - another project.
He'd threatened to marry a "barmaid from Indiana" if his wife hadn't married him when she did! Personally, I thought I would have told him to marry the barmaid, but, most people weren't like me, I guess.
Regardless, FBI Profiler's say that there are stressors and/or triggers that set off a psychopathic serial killer. Some of those are - a birth, a death in the family, a new marriage, the breakup of a relationship [dating or marriage], loss of his job, and sometimes even a new job - depending on the circumstances of the job.
And of course, I had my own "opinions" about certain killers - I didn't think they needed any triggers - I thought they were forever looking for an opportunity to claim their next victim, their next trophy.
A map search reveled it's about a nine hour drive from this area to where Kristina Porco disappeared from. No problem at all for my guy. He'd have been home in time to go to work on Monday!
And yes, he knows the area pretty well. He followed his second wife [while they were dating] to Virginia, then didn't spend any time at all with her, but took off on his motor cycle by himself and prowled the area all night. Same story when he went to Madison, Wisconsin in 1992 and Louisville, Kentucky in 1993. He's a weirdo.
April 2006 UPDATE:
Information has recently come to light that gives me strong reason to believe that Kristina Porco was abducted on the night of November 29th, 1986 by a person or persons other than Christopher Below and/or the man I refer to as "The Bearded Man."
From what I've learned I believe that Kristina was taken against her will, and was, very likely taken all the way across our nation to a western state.
It is possible that she was 'moved around' within several of the western states for several years, and may still be there - alive or dead - there's no way of knowing at this time.
Also - I have been told that the following statement - "Porco's mother believes that her daughter's remains are buried in the North Forest Beach area, but no evidence has been discovered to prove any theory." - is not correct:
According to Kristina's mother, she never made this statement and has never believed that her daughter is dead or in the North Forest Beach area. And furthermore, she does not believe that any evidence will ever be found that will indicate that Kristina was ever in that area, much less buried there.
She believes her daughter was abducted by someone living very close to their home, and that the abductor [or abductors] left town immediately with Kristina still alive.
A Western Effort
I would like to take this opportunity to plead with all 'western states' individuals and groups who search for missing people to familiarize yourselves with Kristina's information, and put forth a concerted effort to locate this woman, who would be 36 years of age in June of this year.
There are several possibilities in Kristina's case [as in most cases]. She may have been sold into slavery [human trafficking] and still be alive: She may have been drugged and turned out as a prostitute [another form of slavery] and still be alive:
It is also possible that she is dead by this time, if she were a victim of either of the above mentioned possibilities.
Either way, her family needs to know where she is, and I believe it's possible that her case can be solved, if we will concentrate on the western states of our nation - California / Colorado / Arizona / etc.
If anyone has information they are welcome to contact me. I will keep your name confidential if you request.
The Bearded Man
I have chosen to leave the information concerning The Bearded Man, on this page. Not because I continue to think he may have been involved with Kristina Porco's abduction, but simply because everything I said was [and is] true, and because I have personally seen this man leave our area with women who were never seen again. So, as in everything else, human trafficking has to involve people who are willing to move the captives from place to place.
Nothing has changed. I still say the man has been in far too many places at the right time to be an innocent man. Maybe not in this case - then again, until it's solved, we won't know exactly who or how many were involved, now will we?
